In a pioneer initiative, during the last two decades the University of Minho has been offering a Degree Programme in Management. Initially as Enterprise Management, the Degree Programme has been being gradually re-structured in the last years. It is since the academic year of 2001/2002 the Degree Programme in Management with renewed contents and a more adequate and general management approach.
Nowadays, the manager is expected to be well informed on the surrounding environment in order to facilitate the decision making process and to foster the organisational change. The manager is expected to develop and master skills in order to define objectives whilst possessing a strategic vision which enables him/her to work in a ever more volatile world. In this light, he/she should be a sensible and competent leader. The philosophy of the current academic plan is to educate and train professionals who might be proficient mastering not only in different Management areas, but also in other areas, namely Economics, Mathematics and Law, among others. After a four-year course work this Degree Programme also integrates an internship or a seminar with a workload of 30 hours per week during a semester.
