Luís Sá is an “applied theorist” whose research interests lie in the boundary between Industrial Organization and Health Economics. He holds a PhD in Economics from U Minho (Portugal) and is a Research Fellow in Economics at the Centre for Research in Economics and Management (NIPE, U Minho).
Currently, he sits on the board of the Portuguese Health Economics Association (APES) and, between 2022 and 2022, was a member of the Early-Career Committee of the European Health Economics Association (EuHEA).

Luís studies how the interaction between hospitals determines waiting times and quality provision in competitive settings, which reflect such healthcare market attributes as demand inertia and the complexity of assessing the quality of care. His research interests also include switching costs, experience and credence goods, and two-sided markets.
Luís is the recipient of the 2022 Pedro Pita Barros Award for best paper in Health Economics, and his research has been published in the Journal of Health Economics.
