Carlos Tavares is a graduate of Economics by the University of Porto. Throughout his extraordinary career he held important positions as Chairman in several national and international institutions. He was Chairman of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM) from 2005 to 2016; Vice-President of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) 2011-2016; Chairman of the Committee of European Securities Regulators (CESR) in 2010. He was also Director of the Bureau of European Policy Advisers of the European Commission; President of the Regional Committee European (IOSCO); Chairman of the Committee on Emerging Risks (CER) of (IOSCO); Board Member of several banks; Minister of Economy of the XV Portuguese Constitutional Government (2002-2004), and Professor at the Faculty of Economics of Porto University.
