We are pleased to announce the AlumniTalks@eeg with Jorge Bento, Bachelor in Internation Relation. In AlumniTalks@eeg, EEG graduates come back to school to share the stories of their professional careers with the current students and tell us about the projects in which they are involved.
The seminar will take place on 9th April at 14:30, in the School of Economics and Management - University of Minho, room 0.03.

Jorge Bento Silva graduated from Bachelor in International Relations from EEG|UMinho (1980- 1985) and was the founder of CECRI.
He entered the European Commission when Portugal joined the EU. For 17 years he took on various positions of responsibility in external security heading different geographies (Iraque, Iran, Yemen, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, etc); in several enlargement processes (Sweden, Finland, Cyprus, Malta); and was an advisor for PESC and RELEX. Within this experience, he developed expertise in policies towards the fight against terrorism (assistance to the Palestinian Authority, Kurdish and Chechen terrorism ).
In the wake of the 11th March 2004 attack in Madrid, he joined the Directorate General for Justice, Liberty and Security of the European Commission, where he coordinated the development of policies for internal security and the fight against terrorism.
In 2006/2007 he coordinated the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union in the area of the fight against terrorism, presiding over several work groups of the European Council and being awarded the merit medal for "Justice, Liberty and Security in the European Union" by the Portuguese MAI for his contribution in the building and strengthening of the European Union.
Since 1998 Jorge Bento Silva has served in many management positions in the European Commission as Head of Section and Deputy/Interim Head of Unit in the area of European security - external and internal. He has been since 1st June 2018 attached to the European Parliament in order to support the final stages of the work of the Special Committee on Terrorism and, currently, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE).
