The 42th Colloquiums of
International Relations of University of Minho will take place on May 11th to
13th,heading ‘‘Ameaças transnacionais” and, among the headlines, includes on
the last day, at 3:30pm, the online intervention of the Defence Minister, João
Gomes Cravinho.
The opening meeting counted
with the Director of International Relations Degree, José Palmeira, and with
the President of the Study Center of the International Relations Degree (CECRI)
and of the organization of the event, Ivo Marques, then took place a lecture
about the migrations as a transnational threat, by the member of the european
parliament Isabel Estrada Carvalhais, a conversation with the student Daniel
Santos and a debate about the terrorism on the XXI century, with the assistence
of the Minester of Foreign Affairs, Raquel Duque, and the Professors Felipe
Pathé Duarte (New University of Lisbon, UNL), Paulo Ramos and Sérgio Neiva
(both from UMinho).
On wednesday, the future of
energy is taking place at 11am by the academics Andrea Feldpausch-Parker (State
University of New York, USA), Benjamin Sovacool (University of Sussex, UK),
Amela Ajanovic (Technological University of Vienna, Austria), Maciej Sokolowski
(University of Varsovia, Poland), Anabela Carvalho (UMinho) and Carla Fernandes
(UNL). On the afternoon, at 3:15pm, the role of social media in global politics
will be discussed by Pilar Kaltzada (Linking Ideas, Save the Children), Daniel
Trottier (Erasmo University of Rotterdam, Netherlands), James Katz (University
of Boston, USA), Luís Barreira de Sousa (Ambassador for the Cyber Diplomacy)
and Alena Vieira (UMinho).
The program on thursday begins
at 1pm, with the combat to the cyber-security threats addressed by the director
of the Service of Strategic Informations of the Defence, Carlos Lopes Pires, by
the specialist in digital security of the Foundation of Science and Technology,
Lino Santos, by the colonel João Manuel Assis Barbas and by the professors
Sofia José Santos (University of Coimbra) and Ana Paula Brandão (UMinho). At
2:30 pm an informal meeting with the students
Paulo Viana e Juliana Montine, followed an hour later by the
intervention of the minister João Gomes Cravinho about the international
institutions and global governance. The ending session will take place at 4:30
pm, with the President of EEG, Cláudia Simões.

Degree on the country
The degree on International
Relations of UMinho is the oldest of the area in Portugal, having ex-students
working in national and global unparalleled institutions, as the UN, the World Bank
and the OCDE. The CECRI is the oldest students center of UMinho and its
Colloquiums are a reference, attracting personalities from all around the
world. The CECRI has a mission to stimulate the interest in the area, perform
activities for the academy and the society, encourage the scientific debate and
propal the degree. Its projects also stand out the simulation of the UN with
the MEP on the panel, cycles of conferences and workshops and the annual
magazine “ZOOM”, among others.
