The PhD in Management seeks to develop competent researchers at an international standard in the management field. With a study plan of 180 ECTS, the PhD in Management is taught entirely in English and is divided into two distinct phases: a first academic year dedicated to learning about the research process, with compulsory curricular units (in the areas of Management and Epistemology), a wide range of specialization units in the different areas of specialization (Accounting, Finance, Marketing and Strategy, Applied Quantitative Methods, Organization and Business Policies) and several methodological seminars to support the preparation of the dissertation; followed by four semesters dedicated exclusively to the production of the research work and its dissertation.
The PhD in Management offers excellent conditions for research, both in terms of facilities and access to software, databases and bibliography. Contact with the international academic world is highly encouraged. The EEG provides financial support for students to participate in international scientific conferences. It has a highly qualified Faculty, trained at leading universities and affiliated with well-ranked research centres with growing publication rates and high impact. Students come from different nationalities, providing an excellent working and social environment.
The Programme’ specific objectives are to:
• Promote the advancement of knowledge in Management;
• Autonomous and original work in the field of Management;
• Provide doctoral students with the necessary support to develop skills to carry out quality research work;
• Contribute to the interdisciplinary discussion of knowledge in Management, as well as its interactions with other domains of knowledge;
• Communicate with the academic community and society in general, discussing the results, conclusions and implications of the research projects carried out;
• Professional and social activities in the various areas of Management in order to contribute to scientific and social progress.

The course is organized into the following areas of specialization: Accounting, Finance, Marketing and Strategy, Applied Quantitative Methods, Organization and Business Policies. Students who wish to write a dissertation in a multidisciplinary area may enroll in the area of specialization of Business Studies, which involves choosing optional curricular units, in the 1st semester, from different areas of specialization.

Each item, designated as shown below, is evaluated in the scale 0-20.
B = points for Bachelor's degree
M = points for Master's degree
O = points for Other advanced studies in Management
P = points for Professional merit

The final mark is obtained thus:

Candidates who do not submit an English proficiency certificate with the required level CEFR ≥ B2 or TOEFL≥100 or IELTS ≥ 6.0 or Cambridge ≥ FCE (CAE or CPE) will be excluded. Candidates from English-speaking countries, or holders of degrees awarded by english-speaking countries are free not to submit the English language proficiency certificate.
Applicants should include, whenever possible, official information on any distinguishing elements of their academic and professional career, such as prizes, merit scholarships, or other distinctions, average course completion percentile, participation in scientific conferences or publications of a scientific nature, which make it possible to assess the relative and distinctive value of the application.
Certificates issued by foreign institutions and not officially recognised are required to be recognised by the diplomatic authorities, or Portuguese consular authorities, or carry the apostille of the Hague Convention (its non-presentation is an eliminatory factor).
