Master in Political Science
  APPLICATIONS

This course allows students to further advanced studies of political phenomena. It has been designed for Political Science and other social sciences graduates willing to excel and consolidate skills spanning from the elaboration, monitoring and evaluation of public policies to holding positions such as electoral marketing agents, political coa​ching consultants, political and electoral behaviour analysts, polls, among other highly specialised functions before entry into the labour market. It is also intended to all graduates, who however in the labour market, wish to enrich their scientific profile in a context of growing labour competitiveness.​​​

Specialization Diploma: Completing the academic part of the course guarantees you the opportunity to apply for your Specialization Diploma in Political Science.

Description

The Master in Political Sicence allows students to further advanced studies of political phenomena. It has been designed for Political Science and other social sciences graduates willing to excel and consolidate skills spanning from the elaboration, monitoring and evaluation of public policies to holding positions such as electoral marketing agents, political coaching consultants, political and electoral behaviour analysts, polls, among other highly specialised functions before entry into the labour market. It is also intended to all graduates, who however in the labour market, wish to enrich their scientific profile in a context of growing labour competitiveness. This Master aims to:
- understand in depth the problems and dilemmas in contemporary political world;
- understand fully the internal and external challenges that confront the nation state as well as the international system;
- evaluate and interpret the dynamics of the (political and economic) integration process in Europe and its present crisis;
- analyse and reflect critically the rapport between the media and the exercise of political power;
- develop research projects autonomously, guided by methodological rules specific to the field of Political Science.

Key learning outcomes

The Master in Political Science is based on the acquisition and development of competences, moving away from the mere transmission of the knowledge taught, as advocated by the Bologna Process. The Master programme is expected to demonstrate upon completion of the degree a whole set of general, knowledge and understanding as well as intellectual skills.
1. In the field of general skills, it is expected to demonstrate the capacity for research, analysis and critical reflection based on scientific knowledge.
2. In the domain of knowledge and understanding, advanced knowledge and understanding of the theories, concepts and ongoing debates in the area of Political Science is expected; the research methods used in the area; and searching the sources, in different media (printed, oral, electronic).
3. In the field of intellectual skills, the development of independent research, autonomous thinking, comparison and evaluation of concepts and paradigms, critical thinking of political events, ideas, institutions and practices is expected, applying the concepts, theories and methods used in the study of Political Science; formulating and defending positions, coherently and concisely, based on scientific literature and empirical evidence;
4. In the field of the transferable skills, it is expected to demonstrate the capacity for initiative and innovation, to work autonomously and as a team, the ability to organise, plan and manage time according to the defined timetables.

Formal requirements

Applicants to the Masters Dregree Course in Political Science must be graduated or possess a legal equivalent, in any area of social sciences, whether from a national or an international superior university. The Scientific Council of the EEG may admit the application, under proposal of the Directive Commission of the Masters Course, of applicants who are not graduated but whose academic, professional or scientific curriculum vitae attests the applicant's capacity to concretise the objectives of this course of studies.
