Paulo Mourão publishes book on the Economics of Forgetfulness
Back
Monday, 7/3/2023
Paulo Reis Mourão, Professor at the Department of Economics and Researcher at the Centre for Research in Economic and Business Policies (NIPE), co-edited two books with Professors Carmela Sanchez and Bruno Varela, from the University of Santiago de Compostela, launched this week by Routledge. The books result from the concept of "Economy of Forgetfulness" that Paulo Mourão explored in the work published by UMinho Editora in 2020. Both Routledge books are full of cases of regions that were forgotten by public and private investment and, as a result of the intervention of several agents, emerged and became spaces with economic growth, with employment leverage and more quality of life for residents. The first book "
European Regional Policy and Development Forgotten Regions and Spaces
" focuses on European cases, while the second book "
Regional Development and Forgotten Spaces Global Policy Experiences and Implications
" focuses on the remaining international cases.
According to Paulo Mourão, "initially, we contracted with Routledge for a single book but given the fluency of the contributions by the dozens of co-authors and given the quality of the contributions, Routledge proposed the publication of two titles".
In September and October, these books will be presented at the Universities of Santiago de Compostela and Minho.
