On 17 October 2023, the School of Economics and
Management of the University of Minho hosted an Open Class on "The
Economics of Poverty and Poverty in Portugal", an initiative organised by
the University of Minho's Economics Students' Group (NAECUM) to mark World
Poverty Eradication Day.
The programme included the Secretary of State
for Social Security, Gabriel Bastos, the President of the School of Economics
and Management, Cláudia Simões, Eva Ferreira from Cáritas Braga, David
Rodrigues from the Braga Red Cross and Maria José Afonso, Vice-President of the
General Council of the Braga District Branch of the European Anti-Poverty
Network.
The activity also called for a solidarity
collection for the Virar a Página (VaP) association, as part of the solidarity
movement of the University of Minho's centres, SolidariUM.
