The initiative, promoted as part of the EEGENERATING SKILLS program, provided the academic community with a structured reflection on the role of investing in the development of financial autonomy.
On May 8, 2025, the School of Economics, Management, and Political Science of the University of Minho hosted the session “EEGConnect: BPI – Invest with Confidence — Start Now,” which took place in the dst Auditorium on the Gualtar campus. The initiative, carried out in conjunction with the Entrepreneur Support Office (AGE) and promoted with the support of BPI Gestão de Ativos, is part of the activities of the EEGENERATING SKILLS program, which aims to develop skills that complement the academic path of EEG students.
Valuing applied financial knowledge
The main objective of the session was to promote informed and accessible reflection on financial literacy and planning, with particular emphasis on the importance of adopting sustainable personal investment practices from an early stage in working life. This approach is particularly relevant in a context where Portugal continues to have low levels of financial literacy compared to other European Union countries.
Various topics with a direct impact on individual financial management were addressed, namely:
The relevance of investment as a tool for financial autonomy;
The importance of starting investment practices early in one's professional career;
The presentation of financial strategies and products suitable for novice investors.
Technical and academic contribution
The session was moderated by Professor Pedro Ferreira, lecturer at the Department of Economics of the EEG, and included the participation of experts from BPI Gestão de Ativos, whose contributions enriched the debate with technical perspectives based on the reality of contemporary investors.
The initiative was aimed at the entire academic community, with free admission, and proved to be an important opportunity for acquiring practical knowledge and developing a more conscious and informed culture of financial planning.
