Bachelor in Political Science

The BA in Political Science has as its main goal to enable its graduates to perform highly qualified functions in the following areas: State governance, Central, Regional and Local Administration; European institutions; companies working in the fields of political image consulting, polling and media; political coaching, electoral marketing; national and international research centres and think tanks. 

​To that end, the BA in Political Science focuses on the development of multiple skills that allow the correct use of the theoretical, conceptual and methodological tools essential to the analysis and evaluation of political behaviors; the performance of advisory and political coaching functions in the field of political communication; implementation, evaluation and monitoring of public policies and programs. Out graduates in Political Science conquer a solid preparation that allows them also to opt for the pursuit of more advanced study cycles.​

AIn addition to obtaining a positive grade in the project component, the conclusion of the Curricular Unit (UC) "Project" implies cumulatively, the verification of the following requirements:
(1) compliance with 3 ECTS in the EEGenerating Skills programme;
(2) compliance with the Data Analysis Requirement;
(3) compliance with the Internationalisation Requirement.

Description


The main objective of this degree is the highly qualified training of senior technicians qualified for the correct use of quantitative and qualitative instruments essential in the performance of political behavior analysis and evaluation functions, as well as political institutions and reforms; performing political consulting and coaching services; in the performance of political and electoral marketing services; performing functions of analysis, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of public policies, among others.

Key learning outcomes


With a view to the full development of the theoretical, technical and transversal competences underlying these functions, the bachelor degree in Political Science prepares our students to:
1. Interpret the Modern State from an organic and functional point of view;
2. Identify and reflect on the specific dynamics of power and political process;
3. Demonstrate sound theoretical knowledge on the political functioning of different western and non-western political systems and regimes;
4. Understand the main negotiation and decision-making mechanisms at work in the European political institutions and other international fora;
5. Assess the relationship between the political process and the media, with a focus on the use of new media by political actors in organizing and pursuing their agenda.
6. Use basic quantitative and qualitative tools in the collection and analysis of data on policy behavior for market research purposes;
7. Understand the roles of political coaching and political advisory.
8. Design execution plans, monitoring, evaluation of election campaigns.
9. Analyze the implementation of public policies and programs.

Access to higher education


This degree gives the technical-scientific ability to access second cycle courses (Masters).
