Maria João Thompson é professora auxiliar do Departamento de Economia da UM e investigadora no NIPE (Núcleo de Investigação em Políticas Económicas). É licenciada em Economia pela NOVA School of Business and Economics, mestre em Economia pela University of Warwick, Reino Unido, e doutorada em Economia também pela University of Warwick. Os seus interesses de investigação concentram-se no desenvolvimento analítico de modelos de crescimento económico, na procura de adicionais fontes de crescimento económico das nações. Tem artigos publicados em revistas internacionais como Journal of Economics; Economic Modelling; Metroeconomica, Japan and the World Economy, Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, Journal of Business Economics and Management.
