Iniciativa organizada pelo Centro de Investigação em Ciência Política da EEG-UMinho, a decorrer entre os dias 19 e 21 de setembro de 2018, sob o tema "Unpacking new ways for the migration/refugee challenge - beyond unsatisfying practices and rhetoric in the European Union" e dinamizada por vários especialistas internacionais da área científica destacada.
Following last year’s successful CICP Summer School, the main goal is to explore the intersection of two core prisms that are used to analyse the migration crisis in Europe. On the one hand, security studies have put the emphasis on the external-internal nexus and on the Union’s practices of externalisation. On the other hand, sociology of migrations and citizenship studies have shed the light on issues of integration and recent studies articulate the idea of “interculturalism”.
In practice, migration flows and the refugee issue are dealt under a security perspective, as opposed to a humanist one. The Summer School aims thus at shedding a new light on the migration/refugee challenge by putting into dialogue conceptual approaches and practices. A critical analysis will be conducted by, namely, deconstructing the academic concepts that reproduce and validate the current practices of the EU member states.
