The President of
the Portuguese Parliament, Augusto Santos Silva, and the President of the
Spanish Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet Lamaña, were at the School of
Economics and Management, University of Minho, on October 11th, 2022, having
delivered a lecture to the students about "Portugal and Spain in
Europe."
The session was
attended by the Dean of the School of Economics and Management, Cláudia Simões
and the Vice-Rector of the University of Minho, Eugénio Campos Ferreira, who
concluded the session.
The EEG students
had the opportunity to ask questions to the Presidents of the Parliaments of
Portugal and Spain in a discussion moderated by Professor José Palmeira from
the EEG's Department of Political Science.
Throughout the
session Augusto Santos Silva and Meritxell Batet Lamaña preached the roles that
the two Iberian countries have at the European level and ponder on how they can
gain prominence within the European Union. Issues such as the economic crisis
and the war in Ukraine were also addressed.
