Master in Monetary, Banking and Financial Economics

  APPLICATIONS

It aims at providing advanced training to graduates wishing to improve their knowledge and skills in the banking, insurance and financial areas. Students will deepen their knowledge of the functioning of the banking, financial and insurance markets, and they will become more skilled and able to contribute productively to the financial sector. The Study Plan starts with basic theoretical training, followed by course units applied to the banking, financial and insurance sectors. Finally, for its completion, you need either to research and write a Master's Dissertation or complete an Internship + Report.​​

Specialisation Diploma: Completing the academic part of the course guarantees you the opportunity to apply for your Specialisation Diploma in Monetary, Banking and Financial Economics.

Description


The Master in the Economics of Money, Banking and Finance targets bachelor graduates in Economics, Management and other areas, from national or foreign universities, who wish to improve their understanding of monetary, banking and financial markets.
This programme offers advanced training to bachelor graduates who wish to improve their understanding of monetary, banking and financial markets, thus becoming qualified to productively contribute to the financial sector and the economy.
The programme offers an execellent development opportunities in the labour market to: (i) professionals in Banking and Insurance, financial institutions and consulting firms; (ii) senior technitians in national and international economic organizations; (iv)higher education faculty; and (v) recent graduates in Economics, Management and other Social Sciences, as wel as recent graduates in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or similar, with an interest in the monetary, banking and financial areas.

Key learning outcomes


1. Promote knowledge in the area of the Economics of Money, Banking and Finance.
2. Promote understanding about how equilibria are achieved in the banking and financial sector, namely in what concerns interest rates.
3. Promote knowledge about the functioning of monetary and financial markets; of monetary and financial institutions; and of the main techniques to value financial assets.
4. Promote the use of bibliographical and statistical databases, the relevant indicators and the main econometric techniques in research works applied to this disciplinary area.
5. Promote the use of theoretical knowledge, statistical data and empirical methods in the definition of economic policies, investment strategies and the risk strategies financial institutions must undertake to face the evolution of the sector and at the macroeconomic level, nationaly and international.

Access to higher education


The Master in the Economics of Money, Banking and Finance provides students with the adequate background to pursue PhD studies in the area of Economics or similar áreas.

The professional opportunities open to graduates of this programmes include several organizations in the Banking and Insurance sector, financial institutions and consulting firms, national and international economic organizations, higher education institutions and private organizations in general.

Formal requirements


- Holders of a degree or legal equivalent in Economics, Management , Public Administration, International Relations, International Business, Mathematics, Engineering or related;
- Students with degrees in Economics, Management and International Business have more weight compared to other degrees;
- Holders of a foreign academic degree conferred following the first cycle of studies in Economics , Management , Public Administration , International Relations ( Economic and Policy Branch ) , International Business or related field , organized according to the principles of the Bologna;
- Holders of a foreign academic degree that is recognized by the Scientific Council of the School of Economics and Management, University of Minho as meeting the goals of a degree.
