The
School of Economics and Management has hosted its Alumnus Gonçalo Lobo Xavier, within the framework of the cycle of
seminars entitled AlumniTalk, inserted in the EEG Transversal Skills
Development Programme (EEGenerating Skills). Fernando Alexandro, Professor of
the Department of Economics EEG, was the Hosting Professor of this session.
The AlumniTalks@eeg cycle relies upon the
invitation of EEG graduates who return to school to share their career paths
with current students and talk about the projects they are involved in.
Gonçalo Lobo Xavier has been the General Director
of APED - Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies, the most
representative association of the food retail and non-food sector in Portugal as
of September 2018. He was Board Advisor at AIMMAP – Association of
Metallurgical and Metal and Related Industries of Portugal, working for the
most exporting industrial sector in Portugal between 2013 and 2018. He was
General Director of the Network of Technological Centres for more than 10 years.
He worked in the areas such as innovation for all sectors of the national
manufacturing industry (textile and apparel, metalworking, footwear, cork,
ceramics and glass, special tools and plastics molds, tanneries, and natural
stone). He has been a member of the CIP (Confederation of Portuguese Business)
for the European Economic and Social Committee, the EU's advisory body in
Brussels, since November 2011, where he was Vice-President for Communication
between 2015 and 2018. He is currently Vice-President of the European Semester,
and he has been evaluating the Recovery and Resilience Plans of all Member
States.
Since February 2014, he has been the National Delegate for Innovation in SMEs
and Risk Finance, under HORIZON 2020 and Horizon Europe, collaborating with FCT
and GPPQ to promote the opportunities in the aim of Europe's largest innovation
programme.
He holds a BSc. in Business Management and Administration from the University
of Minho. He holds the Diplomas in the Global Advanced Leadership Programme
awarded by IMD Lausanne and the Advanced Management Programme awarded by Porto
Business School. He has completed several training programmes at Porto Business
School in International Trade and Institutional Communication and the Advanced
Management Programme. It is noteworthy that Gonçalo Lobo Xavier realised a
one-year-long exchange under the International Business Exchange Network
Programme (IBSEN) framework at the University of West Florida, the USA, and the
International Summer Course in Mikkeli Polytechnic Institute, Finland, within
the frame of the Erasmus programme. Both international mobilities have taken
place in the academic year of 2000-2001.
