Cláudia
Simões, Dean of the School of Economics and Management, University of Minho,
and President of FBA's Board of Trustees, concluded, last October 25th, the
debate "Territorialize: Architecture and Economy."
The debate was the first joint initiative between the Fundação Bracara Augusta
(FBA) and the Order of Architects - Northern Regional Section (OA-N), dedicated
to the relations between economy and architecture, held under the auspices of
the protocol signed between these organizing entities. With this current
protocol, the FBA and OA-N initiate a permanent forum for reflection and debate
on the territory.
The "Territorialize" programme aims to stimulate a debate open to a
society based on an honest and participatory dialogue between architects and
other participants involving universities, associations, and public and private
institutions. The first session highlighted the need to integrate policies with
technical agents and citizens from a perspective of sustainable growth and
territorial cohesion.
Cláudia Simões emphasised: "The role of culture and heritage is
decisive for the quality of life, development, and competitiveness. The
territory as a space of memory and innovation has to coexist. There must be
co-created realities that imply the integration of all, and sustainability is a
common denominator."
The session also included the intervention of Ricardo Rio, Mayor of Braga.
