A recent
scientific study on the state of research in economics shows that the Economics
Department of the University of Minho is among the best at the national level.
The study
“The state of Portuguese research in economics: 20 years after” by Paulo Guimarães
and Mariana Barbosa, published in the Portuguese Economic Journal, aims to
assess the research in the area of economics carried out in Portuguese
universities or institutions, or by Portuguese researchers working abroad.
The study
places UMinho, represented by the Centre for Research in Economics and
Management (NIPE) among the 4 reference institutions, together with Nova
University, University of Lisbon and University of Porto.
The study
also shows that UMinho leads in the number of articles per researcher and,
together with Nova University, also leads in the number of researchers in the
ranking of publications in high quality scientific journals for the period
2000-2019.
Some of its researchers - Odd Straume, Francisco Veiga,
Linda Veiga and Ricardo Sousa, are among the most productive and most cited.
This study thus confirms the excellence of the UM
Department of Economics research, placing it among the best in the national
context.
