EEG Research Day
About 150 students from different courses of the School of Economics and Management (EEG), presented on March 17, 2023, their research works in the scope of the EEGResearch Day. The session had seven parallel sessions and 31 student presentations, in the areas of political science and international relations, public administration, management of health care units, management and economics. The papers, delivered in English, were produced by students from the second and third cycles of the EEG.
For Cláudia Simões, President of the School of Economics and Management, the EEG Research Day "is a day where we showcase the research being done at the EEG, discuss it, share ideas with Master's and PhD students, and welcome guests who come to discuss and share their views on science". In the afternoon, there was a plenary session on Science Communication, with Joana Lobo Antunes, from Nova University of Lisbon, followed by a round table on career paths in research with the theme “Career paths in research”, with the presence of Portuguese Member of the European Parliament Isabel Estrada Carvalhais, Goreti Faria, member of the Economic and Social Council, and PhD researcher Maher Georges Elmashhara, from the Center for Studies in Management and Economics at Portuguese Catholic University. The moderation was in charge of Rita Sousa, professor of the EEG Economics Department.
The Research Day event, which is now in its 10th edition, aims to disseminate the research work, in progress or recently completed, carried out by the EEG's graduate students. This event provides a space for sharing and discussion with researchers from the different scientific areas that integrate the EEG, while at the same time enhancing the contributions to the research activity of our students, as well as valuing their curriculum and experience.
Inês Viana, a master's student in Political Science at the EEG, mentioned that "research is not always a linear path and many doubts always arise as you work, it is always important to get feedback from external people who are not as involved in the work as I am, it was important to get this feedback".
Diogo Fernandes, PhD student in Political Science and International Relations, said that "it is important to understand what our ultimate goal is, what our direction is, and how we can adapt strategies to better meet this objective and better reach this goal”.
