The Minister of Finance, Fernando Medina, visited the
School of Economics and Management on May 3rd and gave an Open Class to the
academic community with the theme "Perspectives and Challenges of the
Portuguese Economy" (Perspetivas e Desafios da Economia Portuguesa).
The EEG students did not miss the appointment and filled the DST auditorium,
interacting with the minister with several questions.
After basic notions of financial economy and an
approach to the different strands of economic thought, the Minister of Finance
addressed in his open class that the Portuguese economy is the one that
"is growing most, within the euro zone" and that "consumer confidence
indicators are also improving, with good results regarding employment, and fall
in inflation". Thus, according to the Minister, "this will restore
peace of mind to families and the ability to plan their future lives".
The open class at the School of Economics and
Management was one of about 90 initiatives that took place in the district of
Braga, on May 3 and 4, under the scope of the "Government Closer " (Governo
Mais Próximo) initiative.
