The School of Economics, Management and Political Science of the University of Minho invites the entire academic community and the general public to take part in the presentation session of the book Artificial Intelligence, Blessing or Curse, by Diogo Freitas, which will take place on 6 May at 5 pm in the EEG Lounge.
At this launch session, the book will be presented by Father Jorge Oliveira, in a talk that will also feature the author, Diogo Freitas - CEO of a group of companies linked to the food industry and a member of the business community associated with UMinhoExec - and Professor Luís Aguiar-Conraria, Professor in the Department of Economics and President of EEG.
The book, which is accessible and straightforward to read, seeks to launch a profound reflection on the role of Artificial Intelligence in contemporary society. Starting from the premise that this technology is here to stay, the author analyses the benefits and dangers of its accelerated development, warning of the risks of uncontrolled evolution that could lead to the so-called technological singularity. The book also offers suggestions on how to deal with this new reality and includes contributions from various guests who share their perspectives on this topical subject.
Biography: He was born in Ponte de Lima in 1990 and has been interested in business, knowledge and personal development since he was young. Dedicated to entrepreneurship from an early age, he continued his father's legacy. It was clear that his predisposition for the gradual and sustainable development of his professional career would be successfully mapped out and objectified. He began his studies in economics at FEP, a course he didn't finish, and recently studied philosophy at Católica. He is currently CEO of a group of food industry companies operating in Portugal and Spain.
