The School
of Economics and Management held on May 5, 2023 the II Journeys on Social
Economics under the theme "Potentiating Synergies". The opening
session counted with the President of the School of Economics and Management,
Cláudia Simões, and the Secretary of State for Social Security, Gabriel Bastos,
who spoke about the "The role of Social Economy in the changing
society". This was followed by a round table with the theme
"Leveraging Synergies to Fight Poverty and Social Exclusion", in
which Manuel Carvalho da Silva, director of the Collaborative Lab for Work,
Employment and Social Protection, and Professors Joana Silva, from Catholic
University, and Manuel Sarmento, from UMinho, participated. The round table was
moderated by Inês Saraiva, student of the Masters in Social Economy
(2021-2023).
At the end
of the morning, the executive director of the Collaborative Laboratory Against
Poverty and Social Exclusion (ProChild), Ana Justino, the CEO of the F3M group,
Pedro Fraga, and the CEO of the Bernardo da Costa - IBM group, Ricardo Costa,
led a round table with the theme "Potentiating Synergies with the
Lucrative Sector", moderated by Inês Saraiva.
In the
early afternoon, the session continued with a "world café" on
challenges and solutions for housing, which brought together the Corporate
Manager of the Human Power Hub, Cláudia Igreja, the coordinator of the Red
Cross of Braga, David Rodrigues, the CEO of Geotributo, Ricardo Almendra, and
the CEO of Econnet and president of Circular Economy Club Braga, Filipa
Gouveia, in an interactive session promoted by the Human Power Hub Braga.
Financial
sustainability was debated towards the end of the session, gathering
testimonials from the director of the Braga District Centre of Social Security,
João Ferreira, the North delegate of the António Sérgio Cooperative, Manuel
Maio, and the president of the District Union of IPSS of Braga, Roberto
Rosmaninho.
The closing
session included the award ceremony of the photography competition. The
organization of the event, which sought to articulate in the programme multiple
agents in the promotion of insertion and social inclusion in different contexts
of intervention, highlights "the commitment to the distinctive and
valuable purpose of the Social Economy in the sense of reflection and action
for an inclusion with equal rights, citizenship and participation in community
life". The initiative was in charge of the students of the Master in
Social Economics of the School of Economics and Management of UMinho, with the
support of the Course Management.
