Conference "On the political economy of Europe's future and identity”
Professor Helena Guimarães, from the Department of Economics of UMinho's School of Economics and Management, participated in the Conference "On the political economy of Europe's future and identity", within the scope of Europe Day, on 9th May, at the Catholic Lisbon School of Business and Economics. His intervention focused on the European Union's trade policy and the issue of reaffirmation of its values and identity, in a context in which several countries resort to protectionist trade instruments to pursue the climate transition objectives.
Professors Nazaré Costa Cabral (Chair of the Public Finance Council), José Tavares (NOVA SBE), Pedro Duarte Neves (Bank of Portugal), Alexandre Palma and Michael Baum (UCP) also participated in the session.
The Conference was organised by Professors Annette Bongardt, and Francisco Torres from CLSBE and included interventions from Filipe Santos (Director of UCL) and Luísa Faria (President of the Scientific Society of UCP).
In the session it was announced the launch, still this year, of the book The Political Economy of Europe's Future and Identity: Integration in Crisis Mode, which will be edited jointly by the European University Institute and the Catholic University. The book will include a chapter by Professor Helena Guimarães entitled The EU 'response' to the US Inflation Reduction Act.
