The School of Economics and Management (EEG) hosted on June 21, 2023, in the dst Auditorium of the EEG the Presentation Session of Results of Climate Change Tourism, of the CLICTOUR Project.
The opening session was attended by Eugénio Ferreira, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, who highlighted the importance of the topic under discussion, climate change and tourism, as well as the added value of collaboration between academia, public institutions and private operators.
This was followed by the intervention of Humberto Cerqueira, Executive Member of Norte2030, CCDR-N, who noted the strong investment foreseen in the region for the coming years, the focus on sustainability issues, as well as the interest and availability of CCDR-N in supporting the development of impact actions in this area.
The key moment of the session followed with the presentation of the actions, studies and activities developed under the CLICTOUR project, by the project coordinators, Rita Sousa, Professor of the Department of Economics and Researcher at the Research Centre for Economic and Business Policy of the EEG and António Vieira (CECS, University of Minho). Also of note was the presentation of the project's corollary, the Roadmap for sustainable tourism in the protected areas of northern Portugal, which identifies the four fundamental paths for the promotion of sustainable tourism: education, sustainable development, governance and communication.
The session included a Round Table discussion of the main results of the project, with the presence of the various actors involved, also providing a networking opportunity for the scientific community.
The session was closed by Sandra Sarmento, Regional Director of Nature Conservation and Forests of the North, at which time it was possible to gather the main conclusions of the event.
CLICTOUR is a research project focused on issues related to climate change resilient tourism in protected areas of Northern Portugal. The project runs between 2021 and 2023 in a partnership between the University of Minho and the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests. It is led by the Centre for Research in Economic and Business Policy (NIPE) of the School of Economics and Management, and funded by the Norte2020 programme.
The initiative is part of the EEG's Transversal Skills Development Programme, EEGenerating Skills.
