at the Department of Economics and Researcher at the Center for Research in Economic and Business Policies at the School of Economics and Management of the University of Minho (EEG), was appointed Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, with the announcement made publicly this Thursday, March 28, 2024.
This position recognizes his valuable contribution to education and research in Portugal. His appointment is celebrated by the EEG, which highlights his commitment to education, innovation and research.
PhD in Economics from the University of London, Birkbeck College. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Minho, vice-president of the Economic and Social Council and a consultant for the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation.
At the University of Minho he was Pro-Rector, President of the School of Economics and Management and Director of the Department of Economics. He was Assistant Secretary of State to the Minister of Internal Affairs in the 19th Constitutional Government.
Author or coordinator of eight books on the Portuguese economy and articles published in international scientific journals, and principal investigator or member of research teams on four projects funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology.
He has worked as a consultant for public and private entities such as the European Commission and the Portuguese government. He was a member of the panel of commentators
