EEG Professor takes office as a member of the European Parliament Back

Isabel Estrada Carvalhais, a faculty member of the Department of International Relations and Public Administration and a member of the Research Centre in Political Science of the School of Economics and Management of UMinho, has taken office as a Member of the European Parliament on 16 of September 2019.
The newly elected Euro-MP, from Braga, assumes the effective position in the Committee on Agriculture and the substitute position for the Committees on Fisheries and Regional Development. She will also be an effective member of the delegation for the relations with the US and a substitute for the Delegation for the relations with Canada.
The European Parliament is headquartered in Strasbourg, consisting of 751 MEPs, where Portugal is represented by 21 elements, 9 of whom are from the Socialist Party. However, there is also work being held in Brussels, where the specialised parliamentary committees are usually convened, as well as in Luxembourg, the headquarters of the Secretary-General.
Isabel Estrada Carvalhais is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the School of Economics and Management, University of Minho. She holds a PhD in Sociology (University of Warwick, UK), an MSc. in Sociology (University of Coimbra, Portugal) and a BSc. in International Relations (University of Minho, Portugal).
He was a member of several research projects, namely "The electoral participation of Portugal's foreigners", conducted by the International Organisation for Migrations in Portugal; Divpol, funded by the European Fund for the Integration. She is a member specialising in non-academic projects and a member of the Transnational Steering Committee in the "Pathways to Parental Leadership" project, conducted by the Immigrant Council of Ireland.
Recently (2016), she worked on the topic of European Crisis and Euroscepticism, analysed from a political perspective specifically on the Portuguese case, in the context of two European projects, one conducted by the Latvian Institute of International Affairs and another by the French Institut Français de Relations Internationales.
