Professor of EEGIUMinho at the Social and Economic Council (CES) Back

Fernando Alexandre, Associate Professor with Habilitation of the School of Economics and Management of the University of Minho, has just been appointed Vice-President of the Economic and Social Council (CES) at the invitation of Francisco Assis, the President of CES.
CES is a body for consultation and consultation of the most representative economic and social stakeholders of the Portuguese society to debate in-depth and at length decision-making processes on the state-of-the-art of the country and materialise opinions to the sovereign bodies on matters such as the proposed State Budget, the minimum wage, the use of Community funds and regional development.
Fernando Alexandre says “This new chalenge is in line with the academic work/research I have been publishing on the portuguese economy for some years now along with colleagues of UMinho. I will endeavour to make sound and relevant contributions in this area of expertise”. He authors books like A Poupança e o Financiamento da Economia Portuguesa, Assimetrias e Convergência Regional - Implicações para a Descentralização e Regionalização em Portugal ou Investimento Empresarial and the Crescimento da Economia Portuguesa.
Fernando Alexandre is 48 years old, and he grew up in the Quiaios Beach (Figueira da Foz). He has been living in Braga for the last 23 years, ever since 1997. He holds a Bachelor Degree and Master Degree awarded by the University of Coimbra, Portugal. He completed his PhD at the University of London, UK. He was Pro-Rector for the Valorisation of Knowledge, President of the School of Economics and Management and Director of the Department of Economics.
He served as Secretary of State between 2013 and 2015. He was a Consultant to the European Commission, the Portuguese Government, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Court of Auditors, the Porto Chambers of Commerce and Industry, inter alia. Currently, he is a Consultant to the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation and a Commentator of the programme “Tudo é Economia” (All is Economics) broadcasted by RTP3. He is a Research Member of the Centre for Research in Economics and Management (NIPE), co-authoring 15 articles published in international scientific journals and eight books.
