The School of Economics
and Management (EEG) of the University of Minho was the setting for the intense
and productive “Jornadas da Economia”, an event that took place between April
22 and 24, 2024, at the Gualtar Campus.
This annual meeting, an
initiative of the University of Minho's Economics Students' Group (NAECUM), has
established itself as a key moment in the calendar for the economic and
academic community, as well as for all those interested in the future direction
of the economy.
Under the theme “Tomorrow's
Economy”, the conference set out to be a bridge between theory and practice,
opening up space for interdisciplinary dialog and the exchange of experiences.
With a diverse and ambitious program, the event attracted students, academics,
professionals and the general public to debates and lectures on topics that are
shaping the future of the economy.
The energy transition was
one of the hot topics, reflecting the urgency of a sustainable model for energy
production and consumption. Experts discussed the policies and technologies
that could transform the sector, considering the balance between economic
growth and environmental protection. The Portuguese economic reality was also
analyzed, reflecting on the challenges facing the country, such as growth, competitiveness
and European integration. Taxation, an always topical and pertinent issue, was
explored in sessions that examined its role in stimulating the economy and
social justice.
At a time when
sustainability has become a global imperative, the days did not leave out this
theme, debating how greener practices can be integrated into the business
fabric and economic governance. Democracy, as a social pillar, was discussed in
the economic context, raising questions about how participation and representativeness
can influence the development of societies. The emerging branch of behavioral
economics played an important role in the event, with sessions dedicated to
understanding how human motivations and cognitive biases impact economic
decisions.
Finally, migration, which
is always on the political and economic agenda, was the subject of a detailed
analysis, considering its consequences and opportunities in an increasingly
globalized economy.
The Economics Days proved
to be an exceptional forum for reflection and the generation of new ideas,
fulfilling the objective of stimulating critical thinking and collaboration
between the different players on the economic scene.
EEG thus reaffirms its
commitment to academic excellence and to creating opportunities for personal
and professional development for its students and the community in general.
With the Jornadas de Economia, the School of Economics and Management of the
University of Minho reaffirms its position as a space for qualified debate,
actively contributing to the enrichment of national and international economic
dialog.
