 Bachelor in International Business


Our Bachelor in International Business envisions to prepare students capable of fully grasping and delving further in the internationalisation processes of organisations and globalisation of the economy. Therefore, proficiency in non-native languages is a feature of this programme, which is why the language of instruction in most of the course units is English. We also encourage our students to undertake one semester or one year of their studies abroad. The profile of the graduates makes them especially suited for relevant positions in various functional areas of companies, particularly in the areas such as negotiation, marketing and finance, human resources, accounting, logistics and technology, organisation and methods in international contexts.​​

AIn addition to obtaining a positive grade in the project component, the conclusion of the Curricular Unit (UC) "Project" implies cumulatively, the verification of the following requirements:
(1) compliance with 3 ECTS in the EEGenerating Skills programme;
(2) compliance with the Data Analysis Requirement;
(3) compliance with the Internationalisation Requirement.

Description


The Bachelor Degree in International Business aims at training graduates in the areas of international economics, international finance, international negotiation, international marketing and logistics, and also in quantitative methods. The purpose is to prepare students to become qualified business executives who master fundamental economics, management and organizational tools, but who are also able to understand the processes of firms’ internationalization and the dynamics of economic globalization, and more aware of ethical and social responsibility principles.
The degree programme relies on highly qualified faculty, who hold doctoral degrees from foreign and Portuguese universities and also on invited lecturers with professional experience in the business field. Several teaching and learning strategies are applied to stimulate independent and cooperative work of the students, who have adequate facilities and modern computer equipment available. Students are also encouraged to participate in international mobility programmes and in activities which promote contact with companies and with the job market through the “EEG Generating Skills” programme and the “EEG Business Day”.

Key learning outcomes


The graduate in International Business should be able to:
1. Build solid skills in the various fields of Economics and Management, namely in the design, elaboration and presentation of international business plans;
2. approach the main theories, conceptual models, methodologies and methods of Economics and Management to solve concrete problems of companies and organizations with international activities;
3. develop the ability to communicate with a variety of media, orally and in writing, in at least two languages, and for different audiences;
4. use the appropriate tools and IT-level skills to analyze data in order to solve organizational problems;
5. manage different resources, define priorities and develop proactive, responsible and entrepreneurial attitudes in multinational and multicultural contexts;
6. develop critical thinking and learning skills, which will allow you to learn independently throughout your life;
7. develop ethical awareness and the ability to recognize and resolve ethical issues inherent in the decision-making process, as well as develop a sense of social responsibility;
8. develop a wide range of soft skills to prepare for their future integration into a global labor market and multicultural environments, as well as promote active citizenship.

Access to higher education


The bachelor in International Business provides the technical-scientific capacity to access second cycle degrees (Master).

Careers


The characteristics of the study plan have contributed to make this programme a reference in the area of international business in Portugal, which is visible by the fast and successful integration of the graduates in the labour market. The main employers are companies and organizations involved in international activities. The graduate in International Business is also prepared to develop her/his professional activity in companies in the consulting or market studies area, in organizations that assess investment projects, and in government departments, particularly those involved in international business activities. Companies and agencies such as INI-Novation, Inova+, Ministry of Foreign Affairs or AICEP are some examples.
