This Master aims to respond to one of the biggest problems within the Portuguese Public Administration: the lack of qualified human resources, competent and creative to perform effectively and efficiently the management of Public Bodies and Companies, in different domains and at bottom-up organisational levels. 

It is an innovative and comprehensive programme designed to provide in-depth theoretical and methodological skills. It envisions to:

• Prepare skilful and proficient professionals in the Public Management related areas, State Corporate Sector entities and Third Sector organisations.

• Stimulate the development of a new Public Management mind-set in line with the current requirements for providing high quality public services.

It offers two fields of specialisation (Public Management and Public Policy; and, Government and Local Government), the course offers a comprehensive in-depth scientific approach to various fields of the Administrative Science and allows students to strengthening their soft skills and competences in the course unit Methodology and Transversal Skills, or in the numerous activities promoted by EEG.​​​

Specialization Diploma: Completing the academic part of the course guarantees you the opportunity to apply for your Specialization Diploma in Public Administration.

Financial Support to the Course



Students currently pursuing the Master's Degree in Public Administration can apply for a funding Programme from the “Income Share Agreement FJN” (ISA FJN).

Description


The Master in Public Administration provides an opportunity to improve the training of current and future public managers and administrators. It reflects the most recent developments in the area of Public Administration ensuring solid theoretical grounds articulated with the practical application to the study of organizations and innovation, personnel management, budgeting, and analysis and evaluation of public policies.
Based on a flexible study plan that allows students to choose the path most suited to their preferences, the programme pursues an in depth approach to several areas of Public Administration, namely Public Management, Public Policies and Local Government. It also allows the reinforcement of transferable skills, be it in the course "Data Analysis and Transferable Skills", or in the inumerable activities promoted bt EEG for that purpose.

Key learning outcomes


The Master in Public Administration aims to provide advanced traininig and skills and updating in the areas of Public Management, Public Policies, and Local Government, namely:
- prepare professionals specialized in Public Service Management and Administration and Public Business Sector organizations;
- stimulate the development of a public management approach considering the current demands to public service delivery;
- promote the analytical capacity to identify public problems as well as design and propose public policies appropriate to their resolution.

Access to higher education


The Master in Public Administration offers advanced training that allows the access to doctoral programmes in Public Administration or related fields.

Masters in Public Administration are prepared to take up highly specialized positions in multiples organizational contexts, namely:
- Central, Regional and Local Administration;
- State Governance;
- Public Sector Businesses, both Regional and Municipal
- Non-governmental Organizations;
- Consulting firms.

Formal requirements


Candidates to the Master in Public Administration must have a bachelor degree in: Public Administration or in related areas such as Management, International Relations, Economics, Law and, in general, in the field of social sciences or other domain as long as these candidates are serving in Public Administration.
Exceptionally, in duly justified cases, candidates may be admitted whose curriculum shows an adequate scientific basis, or relevant work experience, even though they have degrees that are not mentioned before.
