João Cerejeira awarded the Famalicão Municipal Science Medal of Merit

As part of the municipal celebrations for the 39th anniversary of Famalicão's elevation to city status, which includes a solemn session to pay tribute to personalities and institutions in the municipality by awarding prizes, João Cerejeira was distinguished with the Municipal Medal of Merit for Science by the Municipality of Famalicão, in recognition of his significant contribution to the work carried out in the field of Research and Science.
The ceremony, which took place on July 9, 2024, in the Grand Auditorium of Famalicão's Casa das Artes, was attended by a number of local personalities and entities. The distinction awarded to Professor Cerejeira highlights his dedication and the positive impact of his research and initiatives on the scientific and educational community.
João Cerejeira, known for his innovative work and commitment to academic excellence, has made a remarkable contribution to the advancement of science, promoting quality research and the dissemination of knowledge.
The Municipal Medal of Merit for Science is one of the highest decorations awarded by the municipality of Famalicão, which is intended to reward individuals or companies who, through their achievements or actions in Science and Technology, enhance, value and give prestige to the Municipality of Famalicão, helping to raise the name of the city and inspire future generations.
João Cerejeira is a professor in the Department of Economics and a researcher at the Research Center for Economic and Business Policies (NIPE) at the School of Economics and Management (EEG) at the University of Minho and a collaborating researcher at the Research Center for Higher Education Policies (CIPES) at the University of Porto and the University of Aveiro.
He has a degree in Economics from the University of Porto and a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute (Florence, Italy).
He has published articles in international journals with scientific review, several chapters and books on economics and the evaluation of public programs and policies in Portugal. His experience as a researcher also includes reports on labor policies, minimum wages, education and employment in the Portuguese labor market, for the Government of Portugal, the International Labor Organization (ILO) and other national and international public and private entities.
Since 2016 he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Labor Relations Center of the Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity, having been a guest scientific expert in several reports produced by this body. He was Vice-President of EEG and executive director of UMinhoExec - Executive Business Education, an executive education unit of the University of Minho. He is co-author of the book "Economia do Trabalho - Mercados e Instituições", the only academic textbook on labor economics applied to the Portuguese reality.
