Students from the School of Economics and Management (EEG) debated the Portuguese economy in recent years at a seminar on the subject with Manuel Caldeira Cabral, Member of the Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority and former Minister in Portugal's 21st Constitutional Government.

The initiative was part of the cycle of seminars for the Portuguese and European Economy course, taught on the EEG's Economics, Management and International Business programmes.

The seminar provided an in-depth analysis of the behaviour of the Portuguese economy in recent years, covering topics such as the post-crisis economic recovery, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the public policies adopted to mitigate the adverse economic effects, and the future challenges for the national economy in a context of growing global uncertainty.

Manuel Caldeira Cabral brought his vast experience and practical knowledge, highlighting the main growth sectors, such as tourism and exports, and also pointing out the structural weaknesses facing the Portuguese economy, namely in terms of public debt and external competitiveness.

The event generated great interest among the students, who had the opportunity to interact directly with the speaker, asking questions about the future of the Portuguese economy and the role Portugal could play in the European and global context.

The initiative strengthened the link between the theoretical content taught and real economic dynamics, providing students with an up-to-date and practical perspective on the country's economic outlook.

This type of seminar is part of the School of Economics and Management's ongoing effort to promote teaching excellence, providing its students with complementary learning moments and opportunities for dialogue with relevant figures from the national economic scene.
