The social sector should invest
in multidisciplinary networks and innovative methods
In a partnership with the
Centro Distrital de Segurança Social de Braga and the 16 CLDS 4G projects of
the District of Braga, the School of Economics and Management, University of
Minho (EEG) hosted, on November 10th, the Open Talk "Employability for
Inclusion: Sustainability and Social Responsibility." The event, which
took place at the Gualtar Campus of the University of Minho, brought together
several experts and representatives of public and private institutions of the
social sector.
The initiative's principal
objective was to motivate and inspire action at a time of planetary rupture and
environmental crisis through a free and open conversation about experiences and
ideas that challenge social institutions to adopt new models of action and
invest in more extensive and sustainable networking.
The EEG's Dean, Professor
Cláudia Simões, opened the session, highlighting that the meeting explores
"fundamental questions of the times we live in, so it is essential to act
in the context of the challenges that surround us," adding that "institutions,
science, and society need to debate experiences, ideas and practices that open
paths to a future of individual and collective responsibility. It is necessary
to have a profound conversation for sustainable development."
In the same session, the
director of the Centro Distrital de Segurança Social de Braga, João Ferreira,
began by defending the need to invest in networking and in the implementation
of more innovative methods as a way to respond to the challenges posed to the
social and solidarity sector. João Ferreira underlined that it is essential to
"redesign the social economy in a way that is capable of growing new
networks of services that are increasingly efficient and sustainable. Society
needs new, more flexible management models in organisations."
Through two Round Tables
Discussions, the meeting also provided the opportunity to debate topics related
to the opportunities and challenges of the Circular Economy, employability and
inclusion practices, and the future of environmental sustainability and
inclusive employment.
