The
Social Economy Conference was convened on Friday, 3 of December, at Altice
Forum Braga, under the organisation of students currently pursuing the second year
of the Master of Social Economics of the School of Economics and Management of
the University of Minho. The event was part of the Network of European Capital
Cities of the Social Economy 2021, which Braga integrates.
The
School of Economics and Management, together with the Braga City Hall and the
Human Power Hub, provided the necessary support for the realisation of this
conference, which, in turn, opted for a hybrid model, thereby combining the
discussion and debate organised in thematic panels, the holding of workshops
and the presentation of pitches of social projects.
After
the opening of the session, held by Beatriz Casais, Vice-Dean of the School of
Economics and Management, the conference rested upon the reflections of Father
Eduardo Duque, responsible for University Pastoral, and Vanda Araújo, Fernando
Barbosa of the Red Cross and the Focus Cooperative. They underlined the
importance of embracing volunteering practice, highlighting the subjacent civic
and personal gains. The Conference announced the creation of two social
startups, Re.Store and PC and Ler +. In the afternoon, dedicated to the
state-of-the-art of the Social Economy and within the framework of thematic
panels, the motto was elaborating not only on sustainability and innovation,
but also integration and entrepreneurship.
At the
Closing Session of the Conference, which gathered half a thousand people
between the face-to-face and digital model, Sílvia Sousa, Director of the
Master of Social Economy, stressed the motivation of students in organising
this initiative, unveiling its forthcoming reissuance in the upcoming year.
