EEG hosts a seminar on the Social Economy in Portugal with CASES' contribution
The initiative, part of the EEGConnect cycle, promoted reflection on public policies and academic research in the Social Economy sector.

On 28 March 2025, the School of Economics, Management, and Political Science (EEG) of the University of Minho hosted the seminar"Characterisation of the Social Economy Sector in Portugal," promoted as part of the theEEGConnectcycle, which is part of the EEG's Transversal Skills Development Programme, EEGenerating Skills. The session occurred in the EEG's dst Auditorium on the Gualtar Campus in Braga and was well attended by the academic community.

The event's main speakers were Edna NevesandEduardo Pedroso, representatives ofCASES - Cooperativa António Sérgio para an Economia Social (António Sérgio Co-operative for the Social Economy), a leading institution in the promotion and qualification of the Social Economy sector in Portugal. The moderator was Professor Mourão, a professor in the Economics Department at EEG.

During the seminar, relevant data from the Social Economy Satellite Account, a fundamental statistical tool for the economic and social characterization of the sector, was presented and discussed. By analyzing this data, the speakers sought to highlight the growing relevance of the Social Economy in the Portuguese context, reinforcing the importance of its use both in academic research and in the formulation of public policies.
