The School of Economics, Management and Political Science at the University of Minho promoted another EEGConnect session, entitled ‘When intelligence is not enough: critical thinking as an epistemological requirement’, which was attended by Nuno Paulos Tavares and was dedicated to reflecting on the importance of critical thinking in evaluating information, arguments and decision-making processes.
The initiative focused on the contemporary challenges of decision-making in a context marked by information overload, fragmentation of knowledge and increasing pressure to decide quickly. Drawing on the Socratic tradition, the session addressed critical thinking as a philosophical practice of monitoring one's own judgements, bringing together contributions from philosophy, cognitive psychology and the analysis of the social and technological conditions that lead to systematic error.
With a degree in Philosophy, Nuno Paulos Tavares has been teaching since 2005 in the areas of Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Personal Development and Critical Thinking. He is co-founder and coordinator of Enteléquia – Practical Philosophy and founder of A Consulta Filosófica, working as a consultant in educational and organisational contexts, bringing an applied and interdisciplinary perspective to the debate on critical thinking in contemporary society.
