The School of Economics, Management, and Political Science at the University of Minho celebrated its 44th anniversary with a ceremony attended by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, and a lecture by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, on the theme “The Ukraine War and Europe's Defining Decade.”
In his speech, Paulo Rangel emphasized the importance of higher education institutions in training citizens to operate in a complex international context, highlighting the School's role in educating professionals in the fields of economics, management, and political science.
The President of EEG, Luís Aguiar-Conraria, highlighted, among other recent advances made by the School, the five-year international accreditation of several bachelor's degrees by EFMD Global, including Economics, Management, and International Business. Based on this accreditation, he also announced the creation of double degrees, a pioneering innovation that allows students to attend two courses simultaneously, expanding their academic and professional opportunities.
The session also included the presentation of Academic Merit Awards to master's and doctoral students with exceptional academic performance, as well as the Rodrigo Guimarães Institute Scholarships, awarded to Economics and Management students with high grades.
In teaching, Edna Sofia Falorca Costa was awarded the EEG Teaching Prize and Maria Suzana Freitas Gonçalves, from the Department of Mathematics at the School of Sciences of UMinho, was awarded the Teaching Excellence Prize.
Research was recognized through the EEG Research Award, given in several scientific areas: Miguel Ângelo Rodrigues (Political Science), Odd Rune Straume (Economics), Beatriz Casais and Marco Escadas with Tiago Coelho (Management), and António Tavares (Sustainability).
The ceremony also included institutional tributes, highlighting Graça Coelho for her contribution as a member of the School Council, and recognition of Estela Vieira for her 30-year career at the School.
The closing remarks were made by the Rector of the University of Minho, Pedro Arezes, followed by a commemorative moment that brought together the entire academic community to celebrate the School's 44 years of activity.
