The FMA Conference brought together 270 participants from 34 countries

From 10 to 12 June, Forum Braga hosted the Financial Management Association (FMA) International Conference, featuring 270 presentations by academics and professionals from 34 countries. This is one of the world’s most prestigious events in the field of corporate finance, returning to Portugal after many years, now coordinated by Manuel Rocha Armada of the School of Economics, Management and Political Science at the University of Minho, and having received a record number of almost 700 scientific papers initially submitted.

On the first day, the programme featured a panel on fintech with Vítor Constâncio (former minister and President of the European Central Bank), Cláudia Custódio and Gilles Chemla (both from Imperial College), and a lecture by Alex Edmans, from the London Business School and the Wharton School, on ESG (environmental, social and corporate) governance. The second day featured a panel on finance and climate at 2.45 pm, with Pedro Matos, Ian Appel (both from the University of Virginia) and Philipp Krueger (Swiss Finance Institute), followed at 4.45 pm by a presentation from guest speaker Victoria Ivashina of Harvard Business School.

This FMA International conference is a leading global forum for discussing and sharing research and professional practice on trends, challenges and innovations in the financial sector (companies and markets). In addition to the special panels and 88 academic sessions, it includes mentoring sessions for PhD students on the first day, as well as networking opportunities and social events, strengthening the link between academia and the business world.

The organising committee comprises exclusively Portuguese members, reflecting their recognised organisational and scientific expertise in this field: alongside Manuel Rocha Armada, the committee selected Cláudia Custódio (Imperial College), Pedro Matos (University of Virginia Darden) and Cesário Mateus (Aalborg University).
