Delfina Gomes - Robert W. Gibson Manuscript Award
Delfina Gomes, a lecturer at the School of Economics, Management and Political Science (EEG) at the University of Minho, has received the Robert W. Gibson Manuscript Award as co-author of the best article published in the past year in the international journal *Accounting History*, the leading publication in the field.

The award was presented at the annual conference of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) in Melbourne, Australia. The prize recognises the article “How does accounting history shape the past, present and future of society?”, co-authored by Delfina Gomes, Karen McBride of the University of Glasgow, and Michele Bigoni of the University of Kent, UK.

The study argues that the history of accounting serves not only to understand the past: it also helps to interpret current challenges and guide future decisions within organisations and society. The authors maintain that this field should engage more with other disciplines and influence public policy and professional practice in the face of challenges such as climate change, inequality, digitalisation and artificial intelligence.

This article was unanimously selected by the editorial board of *Accounting History*, published by the multinational Sage, and by the AFAANZ Accounting History Group, and was deemed to have made the greatest contribution to the scientific literature in this field last year. “I am delighted by this distinction, which crowns three decades of research and proves that we are on the right track, whilst also enabling Portugal and EEG-UMinho to establish themselves in terms of international scientific excellence,” says Delfina Gomes.

Delfina Gomes was born in Paredes, Porto, and lives in Braga. She holds a PhD in Business Sciences from UMinho, where she is an associate professor with tenure in the Department of Management at the EEG, as well as a member of the Centre for Research in Political Science (CICP) and the General Council. She has been a visiting researcher at RMIT University (Australia) and Edinburgh Business School (United Kingdom). She sits on the editorial board of several leading journals in this field. She has published around 150 academic papers and received numerous scientific awards.
