The School of Economics, Management and Political Science of the University of Minho (EEG) is hosting an open talk on the political participation of people with disabilities and representativeness, on 26 February 2025, at 3.30pm, in the EEG's dst auditorium. This session is organised by the University of Minho's Political Science Students' Group (NECP) and has three main objectives: i. to analyse the lack of representation of people with disabilities in politics; ii. to promote the discussion of solutions to this problem; and iii. to understand the reality experienced by the institutions that support these people.
Guest speakers:
Tiago Fortuna: with a degree in Communication Sciences from FCSH-UNL and a postgraduate degree from the same institution in Communication of Culture and Creative Industries, he is co-founder of Access Lab, a company that works to guarantee access to culture and entertainment for people with disabilities. He is one of the leading activists on the political rights of people with disabilities.
Rosa Guimarães: Professor and one of the leaders of the Braga branch of the Portuguese Association of the Disabled (APD), will be present at this session as a representative of this association. The APD is an organisation that supports various people with disabilities and seeks to influence policies on this issue.
Joãoquim Barbosa: has a degree in Law, is a PSD Member of Parliament for the Braga constituency, and currently sits on the parliamentary committee, Working Group on Inclusion and the Rights of People with Disabilities’.
This session is part of the cycle of lectures entitled EEGConnect, promoted as part of the EEGenerating Skills Development Program.
