The School of Economics, Management and Political Science of the University of Minho participated in the VEM – Vamos Experimentar a UMinho (Let's Experience UMinho) programme, an initiative aimed at 11th and 12th grade students from schools in the north of the country who have distinguished themselves through their academic performance.
Over several days, participants had the opportunity to get to know the university context and the scientific areas of the EEG through a programme designed to promote direct contact with academic life, the training offered and the research carried out at the School.
The initiative included a welcome session, a presentation of the School's courses and a moment of sharing with an alumnus of the School, allowing students to learn about academic and professional paths after attending the School. The programme also included a visit to the facilities of the University of Minho on the Gualtar Campus.
Participants were introduced to the School's main scientific areas and learned about the activities of its research centres, namely the Centre for Research in Political Science (CICP), presented by Marco Paschoalotto, the iBMS – Centre for Research in Business, Markets & Society, presented by Beatriz Casais, and the NIPE – Centre for Research in Economic and Business Policies, presented by Miguel Portela.
The programme also included the ‘Be a Student’ initiative, which provided interaction with EEG student associations and groups, as well as a capital market simulation workshop, led by Professor Nelson Areal, offering practical experience in the financial area.
EEG's participation in the VEM programme reinforces the University of Minho's commitment to valuing academic merit, building closer ties with secondary education and promoting scientific knowledge, thereby helping to support informed choices about the academic future of young students.
