Luís Aguiar-Conraria, President of the School of Economics, Management and Political Science at the University of Minho, is participating today in the RTP television programme ‘É ou Não É? – O Grande Debate’ (Is it or isn't it? – The Great Debate) to analyse and discuss the major issues of the moment, in a space that combines current affairs, reflection and knowledge.
In this programme, the professor, columnist and economics expert joins the panel of resident commentators from Telejornal — João Soares, Miguel Poiares Maduro, Susana Peralta and Pedro Norton — for an in-depth conversation on the national and international challenges that mark the political and economic agenda: health, immigration, housing, economic developments and global risks.
É ou Não É? – O Grande Debate, moderated by journalist Carlos Daniel, is a pluralistic discussion forum that aims to promote debate and knowledge sharing on the main issues of the day, from health and education to justice and the technological and environmental issues that shape our collective future.
The programme is broadcast on RTP1 and is accessible to the entire academic community and the general public.
Luís Aguiar-Conraria holds a PhD in Economics from Cornell University, a master's degree in Economics from the University of Porto and a degree in Economics from the University of Coimbra. He has served as Director of the Department of Economics and Vice-President for Research and Internationalisation at EEG, and has received, among other awards, the Gulbenkian Prize for the Internationalisation of Social Sciences (2011) and the EEG/UMinho Merit Award for Research (2010 and 2013). He is currently the principal investigator of a project on ‘Voting rules and electoral distortions’, funded by FCT.

Professors from the School of Economics, Management and Political Science at the University of Minho (EEG) have been making headlines in the national media with specialised analyses of the international political scene. On the US inauguration, Isabel Estrada Carvalhais and Sandra Fernandes' contributions demonstrate the impact of EEG's academic knowledge beyond university borders.
Professor Isabel Estrada Carvalhais, who specialises in Political Science, took part in Porto Canal's afternoon news programme, offering a critical analysis of Donald Trump's inauguration speech. In her intervention, she pointed out that the speech was close to a confrontational narrative, emphasising the recovery of American sovereignty and characterising it as a ‘war speech’.
On the same subject, Professor Sandra Fernandes, Director of the CICP and a specialist in International Relations, was interviewed on RTP3, where she analysed Trump's political comeback. She underlined Trump's strategic preparation and characterised his movement as part of a ‘reactionary international axis’ that defies scientific evidence.
These media interventions reinforce EEG's commitment to promoting rigorous and contextualised academic analysis of contemporary political events, contributing significantly to informed public debate.
