This short course aims to foster the development of core competences and to equip trainees with the scientific, technical and communication skills needed for scientific research. Trainees are expected to:
a. Practise writing and presenting scientific results orally to the scientific community in the form of posters, oral communications, talks or scientific reports, among others;
b. Broaden and deepen their knowledge of the specific area in which they carry out their research;
c. Develop soft skills by joining multidisciplinary research and innovation teams, often in collaboration with other national and international research institutions or companies;
d. Acquire knowledge of workplace safety and good practice, and become familiar with the main risks;
e. Receive training in equipment/instruments, data analysis tools and bibliographic resources;
f. Reflect on experimental design and the collection of scientific data (including ethical issues), as well as on its analysis and critical discussion.
The course is aimed at early-career researchers, research fellows and others wishing to complement their training (e.g. trainee students). The objectives, training content and learning outcomes depend on the length of the stay in the research group and on the modules attended.
