The School of Economics, Management and Political Science at the University of Minho (EEG) is hosting a session on the theme “Rethinking Learning in the Age of AI”, which includes a lecture and a workshop focusing on the impact of artificial intelligence on higher education.
The event will be led by Dr Lucy Gill-Simmen, Associate Dean (Education and Student Experience) at Royal Holloway Business School, University of London, whose work focuses on innovation in management education, with a particular emphasis on integrating artificial intelligence, creativity and storytelling into teaching and learning processes. Throughout her career, she has led institutional initiatives in the field of AI applied to education and developed innovative pedagogical approaches, combining technology with inclusive and experiential methodologies. Her work has been published in leading academic journals, such as the European Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Marketing Management, and she is also a regular speaker at international forums on the future of education and learning using AI.
During the morning, the lecture “When Intelligence Is No Longer Scarce: Rethinking Learning in the Age of AI” will take place, offering an in-depth reflection on the role of education in a context where access to knowledge is immediate and amplified by artificial intelligence. The session explores how generative AI is transforming learning paradigms, challenging the traditional transmission of knowledge and valuing human skills such as curiosity, critical thinking, creativity and the construction of meaning.
In the afternoon, the workshop “Designing Creative and Collaborative Learning with AI” will take place; this practical and interactive session will give participants the opportunity to explore different artificial intelligence tools and reflect on their application in educational contexts. The session will address strategies for integrating AI into the design of learning experiences that promote critical thinking, collaboration and creativity, reinforcing the role of technology as a support for skills development, rather than as a substitute for human thought.
This initiative provides an opportunity for lecturers and researchers to reflect on the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence in higher education, contributing to pedagogical innovation and adaptation to new learning paradigms.
