Emília Gonçalves, a Master’s student in Social Economics at the School of Economics, Management and Political Science at the University of Minho, has been awarded the S. Martinho de Dume Prize, presented by Cáritas Portugal for the best dissertation in fields related to social intervention.
The award-winning dissertation, “Ageing on the Margins: Vulnerable Older People in Portugal”, was supervised by Professor Cristina Matos and analyses the vulnerabilities and challenges faced by the elderly population in Portugal, making a significant contribution to the debate on ageing, social exclusion and support policies.
The prize is the result of a partnership between Cáritas Portugal and the School of Economics, Management and Political Science at the University of Minho, with the aim of promoting study and research in the field of Social Economy.
The award includes the publication of the thesis as a book and its public presentation at a dedicated session, recognising the scientific quality of the work carried out and its contribution to the debate on contemporary social issues.
