To apply, please gather the following documents:​

1.Curriculum Vitae up to date, dated, and signed (scientific, academic, and professional curriculum attesting the ability to qualify for a PhD degree);
2. Copy of the certificates of the Degrees with which you are applying with a certified indication of the final averages obtained from undergraduate and master’s degrees (their non-presentation is an eliminatory factor). Certificates issued by foreign institutions and not offially recognised are required to be recognised by the diplomatic authorities, or Portuguese consular authorities, or carry the apostille of the Hague Convention (its non-presentation is an eliminatory factor);
3. Copy of the transcript of grades of all the curricular units of all the degrees with which one is applying (its non-submission is an eliminatory factor);
4. Copy of personal identification document or another identification document for foreign candidates. In case the candidate expresses his opposition to the reproduction/copy of the identification document, he must go to the academic management services to display the document within the deadline established for the application;
5. A research project, including main research questions/objectives, brief theoretical background, and proposed methods (maximum 2000 words);
6. English language certificate with a minimum level: CEFR ≥ B2; TOEFL≥100; IELTS ≥ 6.0; Cambridge ≥ FCE (i.e., CAE or CPE), as a condition of admission (except for candidates from English speaking countries or with degrees obtained from universities in these countries). Applicants who do not present a certificate of English language proficiency may be excluded. Exceptionally, other forms of proof of the minimum required English language proficiency may be accepted;
7. Letter (s) of recommendation (optional);
8. Master’s dissertation/project/report (in pdf format, with abstract in English. If the document is not written in Portuguese nor in English, an extended abstract of 2500-5000 words is required);
9. Application form duly completed. Whenever the document referred to in point 2 is not authenticated, it is necessary to deliver it in paper form, duly authenticated, or send it by registered mail, to the academic services of the University to which the candidate is applying, until at the end of the application or upon registration, authentication being essential for holders of foreign qualifications;
10. Copy of certificates from completed postgraduate courses;
11. For applicants to the 3rd Phase, a Residence permit in the European Union is required;
