PhD Programme in Marketing and Strategy

The PhD in Marketing and Strategy is a joint project from the Universities of Minho, Aveiro and Beira Interior. Drawing on the synergies between the three organising universities, this programme aims at endowing doctoral students with a state of the art vision of the advance of scientific knowledge in these areas. It is an international programme and mastery of the English language is mandatory. In addition, it is highly flexible allowing the conduction of studies/research in both part-time and full-time regimes.

It is structured in six semesters (a three-year-long programme), corresponding to 180 ECTS. It combines structural components of Marketing and Strategy and in-depth optional course units of both areas, at two different times: the first year is dedicated to taught part and research in the organising universities according to a pre-arranged schedule, whereas the two last years are devoted to research and the preparation of an original Doctoral Thesis.

Through the strengthening of skills of research, analysis, autonomous and creative production of scientific knowledge and its dissemination, students should achieve academic and professional performance thus enhancing the prospects of their professional careers, namely holding positions in private and public institutions, national and international companies, or while recognised leaders and managers of their own business idea​.​​​​​

Access to this cycle of studies requires an application to the School of Economics and Management of the University of Minho.

Formal requirements


Candidates must meet the conditions required in national legislation, regulatory requirements and specific regulations and respect, at least, one of the following conditions:
a) Master degree, or legal equivalent, in Marketing, Strategy, Management, Economics or related areas;
b) Bachelor in Marketing, Strategy, Management, Economics or related areas; 
c) Scientific or professional curriculum recognized as relevant and appropriate by the programme’s Scientific Commission.
The course is lectured totally in English and candidates are required to have and show evidence of an indepth knowledge of English.
